WHAT IS VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER?
Vegetable tanned leather refers to the method of tanning the hide into usable leather. It is called vegetable because of the natural extracts used in the tanning process, e.g. tree bark, instead of chrome chemicals. Vegetable tanning, is one of the oldest methods of tanning, so nothing new or fancy about this.
Because of the natural tanning process, Vegetable tanned leather is biodegradable and recyclable. And another advantage to vegetable tanned leather, is that it smells authentic and amazing! It is also the vegetable tanned process, that gives the leather its warm and natural tones that matures over time.
WHAT IS LWG LEATHER?
LWG is short for, "Leather Working Group", and means that LWG listed tanneries, all follows appropriate environmental compliances of sustainable processes, when transforming the raw material into beautiful skins. This includes less use of water, chemical and traceability of the raw material.
YKK is short for the Japanese manufacturer, "Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha", and is well known for their impressive construction and reliability of zippers. YKK NATULON® zippers are made from recycled PET bottles, old fibres and other polyester leftover materials. Peganpoetry bags, are always made with YKK - It leaves you with a product that will last longer, and therefore have less impact on the environment.
WHAT IS BCI COTTON?
BCI is short for, *The Better Cotton Initiative", and is a non-profit organization that promotes better standards in cotton farming, such as good farm practices, allowing more cotton to be grown while reducing water and chemical use, and protecting both working conditions and biodiversity. BCI system, is a holistic approach to sustainable cotton production and meets UN's goals to achieve better global water sustainability and sustainable agriculture.
